Dongara - Day 16

Today was hot, really hot & humid, unusual weather the locals were saying.  We ventured into town which was lovely and not smelly.  So our apologies to Dongara as a whole it is only the stretch of beach along where we are staying that smells (of course its our luck!)  It is the wet seaweed that smells, the park is such a great park that even though it smells so bad you can overlook it because of its clean facilities etc.  The main street of Dongara is lined with Moreton Bay figs hence the name Moreton Terrace.  What a beautiful sight and a welcome relief from the heat in the shade of these massive trees.  We stopped at the IGA for morning tea, we have taken a bit of a liking to the Kellogs crunchy nut muesli bars and its not often we all like the same thing so $5 morning tea what a bargain with 2 leftover for us to fight over.  We had hopped to catch up with Jane's parents who we hadn't seen in such a long time but they had already left for their own holiday.  We did a drive by and checked on their place, such a beautiful property and may have even pinched a ripe tomato off their bush on the back porch, tasty tommy thanks Nan & Andy xx  We checked out all the shops & pubs, scoring a bargain for Mackenzie with 2 pairs of Roxy shorts for $2 each, can you believe it.  We ducked in for bread to the bakery and Dan went in for a couple of pies, we cut them in quarters and shared, chicken satay yum.  Bit of a maths lesson about the pie.  We went looking for a plaque in the name of a friend of Daniels from works grandfather.  His grandfather was a minister in Dongara and the foundation stone was set in 1953 as a lasting tribute.  We washed all Bentleys bedding in a bucket, boy it was dirty.  Then we decided to do Bentley as well.  Classic we must have looked under our awning  blow drying our dog in the 36 degree heat.  It was an afternoon well spent because the breeze was a relief and in the shade it was almost bearable.  We had dinner and the kids watched a movie while we had a catch up with our neighbours, Glenys & Colin.  Such a lovely funny couple, wine, chips, cheese & bickies & lots of laughs.  They by far beat us in the Griswold stakes, after a while Glenys said she couldn't believe she was telling us all the problems, my suggestion was that maybe half of the stories they should say happened to "a friend"  You have never heard of so many breakdowns, towing, spun caravans with oncoming road trains, accidents -  no glorified stories just plain bad luck.  A great night but a late one so we got no packing done so it was to be a long morning.
