Up early to get on the road, we had done most of the packing last night so it was just a matter of quick showers to make the most of our lovely ensuite before going back to public toilet blocks :( Pretty overcast day but before long it was 38, not really any sun but hot. I might just start each post with it was hot today! And if I'm told by one more local it gets hotter as you head up the cost I'm going to go crazy. I said to Dan today that I really don't know how it can get any hotter and 3months at Nambucca Heads is looking very inviting. I'm actually handling it better than Daniel, and the kids aren't really saying much about the heat, they have beads of sweat on them and we will say, are you ok its hot isn't it and they look and have a little think and say yeah it is?! We are just blessed to go from an air conditioned car to air conditioned van. We got out of Kalbarri today only to realise we wouldn't have enough petrol to get to the next petrol station, so around we turned to head back to North Hampton for petrol, a minor 50kms one way out of our way! Its actually funny how when a certain person on our trip makes an error in judgement its not a problem and "no don't worry about it" " its not that far" " its ok " they were endless his reassurances, I know it would have been a very different conversation if I had cost us an hour of travel time! Anyway luck was on our side as there was a roadhouse only about 10kms back so we filled up and got back on our way. Daniel is still doing all the driving, with ease I must say and I'm very thankful to him for it and for planning the trip. We pulled into Denham after lunch and set up. I have to laugh at people when they get up and come over or sit and watch Dan park the van, they are almost disappointed not to be able to help as he 99%of the time reverses perfect 1st go. The other days comment was "well he did that easily" was not so much a statement but almost a question of why, how, what the! I will put that down to my skilful direction because I have already given him compliments for his driving on this blog so I cant have him thinking he is as great as he is. The park is right on the water and when I say right on I mean you step out of your van or tent onto the beach. All the roads in the park are crushed up shells. We walked into town and had a look in some of the souvenir shops and got the kids some new thongs, 3 weeks in and that is all we have had on our feet and Fletcher is almost worn through his so I thought I'd get backups while we could. We walked along the foreshore, which has such thick lush grass and so many facilities, toilets, showers, fish cleaning stations, bbqs, kids parks etc. And also went out onto the pier to see the fish they were catching, massive fish and tonnes of them. An icy pole for the walk back, because did I tell you it was hot?? We are desperately trying to get the kids to the movies and seem to be missing every chance, tonight in Denham was only a grown ups film at 7.30, the last 4 Friday nights they have had a kids movie at 5.30 & adults at 7.30, but not tonight, what a bummer as it was only $3 a child. We also tried in Kalbarri at the outdoor cinema but we were a few days early as they only screen shows in their school holidays which start Monday. Back to the van for Dads left over spaghetti which was a hit again and a game of uno, Dan won all 3 games and I am still 100's of points behind, I think I might change the seating arrangements to try change my luck. We all tried on our snorkels for size, which upset Bentley no end he got all upset and actually turned his back on us and stood at the door wanting to go outside. I suppose we would have looked a strange bunch. Dan seems to think that Bentley was jealous he didn't have one! We packed the car with bathers, snorkels & towels as we are heading to Monkey Mia tomorrow and after the dolphins have come in we might try a bit of snorkelling in the designated area a little way from the feeding area.
