Fletcher : Today was a short drive to Tennant Creek it used to be an old mining town. We got to our caravan park, then went into town and had a look around, We came back and hung around here, we had a look at a plane that kept coming back and forward. We had curried tuna for dinner.
Mackenzie : Today we left Three Ways and drove to Tennant Creek. We set up and then went into town. Fletcher and mum went to look for an AFL t-shirt. We had lunch and a look around the caravan park and put our feet in the pool. We had tuna pasta or dinner and watched the Life of Pi.
Living in a van for 4 months with limited space and cupboards, made worse by our van being a pop top with no cupboards at the top at all, actually hasn't been that bad. Until today! We are living out of one small wardrobe between the 4 of us but have taken too many clothes, the kids have taken just the right mix of toys/games and our electrical equipment leads take up a whole basket on one of the shelves. So coordinating 2 phones, 2 Ipods, 2 DS's and 3 e-readers to be charged most nights is a nightmare only made possible by the fact I'm a light sleeper and can get up and down in my awake times at night and swap them over. So I nearly have it down to a fine art. My husband now needs to get communication and kilometres we will be travelling down to a fine art. 25kilometres........ yes that's right, all that charging of equipment and getting school stuff ready for a days long travel was for 25kms. Three Ways to Tennant Creek is 25kms. Hmmmm why we didn't travel the 25kms yesterday to get here? I didn't ask, I'm secretly pleased that it was a short drive for him to get some rest. So we were at the park before 10am and got to chose any site, it wasn't too busy and it seems the people that were left in the park had chosen to stay as they were heading north and as there were strong headwinds they had decided to stay an extra day rather than face the head winds and cost them petrol. We set up the van and headed into town as Fletcher had seen an AFL tshirt in a shop window he wanted to look at, how's that for good vision! We got to the store and like in Darwin they had sold out of Sydney tops, Darwin actually said they could order and post one to us so that might be the option we have to take if we don't see them in Alice Springs. We had a look around town at a few stores and sites before heading back to the van. So by now the kids have worked out that the bathers are probably going to have to be put away and they didn't even bother getting them on, just dipped their feet in this time. The nights are now fantastic and cool, I know it sounds crazy when Melbourne is freezing most days but it is just such a welcome relief after 3 months of such hot weather and the air con running day and night. Dan started to feel a little un well and as I thought he was getting man flu, which he gets often and doesn't do well, I got out the first aid box and dosed him up with a threat to not get sick. Bad move as half an hour later I was also full of aches and pains and a headache. I had cooked tea thank goodness, he and I were unable to eat and I got into bed, by now with a fever and delirious, Mackenzie patted my hair till I fell asleep, sweet little mumma that she is and poor Dan although feeling unwell he spent the night checking on me that I was still breathing. Of course, the next day not letting on he was worried he followed up with that he had to check he had the pillow covering my face just right ! The kids teased him saying "oohh you love her" So after a dream run of great health for 3 months the powers are sick :(
