Mackenzie: Today we drove from Parry Creek to Kununurra, it took a hour. we had a look at one caravan park but dad said that this is the wrong one so we drove and then we found the right one. We got there and me and Fletcher were playing with Bentley while mum & dad were in the office. When we got to the site we set up the caravan and then went into town. Mum, me and Fletcher went into the shops and got some food at coles then we went back to the caravan, we went to the pol it was so big. Behind the caravan park there is a lake and there are fresh water crocs.
We decided to move onto Kununurra today, we tossed up whether to stay another night to do El Questro from Parry Creek but thought we would keep moving. So before I move on I just have to tell you what great food it was at Parry Creek, the owners even though they are flat out come and talk and check all is going well. We had a great night, the kids coloured in and chatted and looked at the photos Anne & Terry have up and I jumped on the internet to do the blog. Oh and the ice cream was amazing, banana & mango home grown & homemade, we all shared a serve, we must have looked crazy all sharing but as we were so full from dinner we couldn't fit anything in but we just had to try the ice cream. This morning we stopped and had a chat to the other Anne before we left, her and her husband have come back to Parry Creek 4 years running to work there for the busy season and work the 6 months so I think that is an indication of what a great place it is. So we finally got on the road as Daniel has found his voice this trip and talks more than me and chats to anyone and everyone that is around in the caravan parks. It was a very easy hours drive to Kununurra and after a wrong turn to the wrong caravan park we headed to our park, Lakeside tourist park. Like a lot of the parks it has so many different types of accommodation , motel rooms, dongas full of workers, units, van park etc. The pool is beautiful and it overlooks the lake and the restaurant, there is even an intercom inside the pool area that you can use to order food & drinks from the restaurant without having to dry off, you tell them the denomination of money you have and they bring your order and your change....love it. No we haven't done it yet! (only cos we didn't know about it and had no money on us - tomorrow is another day!) The park is great and reception were very careful to get us a site with shade which was great, again we are in a doggy section but its not in a back corner on dirt so things are getting better. We took a drive into town to see what was about and stock up on fruit, meat & vegies as we had used everything while out on the farm, its seems funny to call it that, as Parry Creek is only 120acres its no where big enough to be called a station property but it kind of is like it. We found Coles and filled a trolley which is always a problem as we don't have space in the car as the boot has our fridge and Bentleys crate in it so we all end up with shopping on our laps & at our feet. Dan was almost out of soft drink so that wasn't going to be pretty if we didn't fix that problem. Can you believe the shelves were almost empty, a 10 pack of lemon squash was not met well when I came back to the car, in my hand I did have a raincheck for 3 slabs of the coke on special, once he got the concept of a raincheck he was a very happy man. We went back for a swim and it was nice to have showers without frogs or opening the toilet seat without a green tree frog staring back at you. Last night Mack went to a toilet with a big green tree frog in it, she closed the lid and went to the toilet next to it, while we were waiting the toilet seat (with the frog in it) kept banging, I went to look and this crazy thing was kind of head butting the toilet lid and letting it drop down again, we thought he wanted to get out so we opened the lid but he just dived back into the toilet water and down the bend. Feel sorry for the next person who goes to sit down without looking first. There is the little gecko lizards here but they just look at you they don't jump out from behind the toilet or from in the toilet. Dan went down to the waters edge on dark and saw 2 sets of eyes peering back, I'm not that keen on getting so up close to a croc but I'm sure the kids will want to tomorrow night. We had a great stew tonight with lovely fresh bread from the bakery, was so nice as I was a bit over frozen bread.
Fletcher & I kicking back waiting for tea, the pizza oven is just behind Fletcher on the other side of the screens, the bugs are bad, look how dark it is outside at 5.30pm
Cane toads all worshipping the light, in this photo they just look like dried up leaves but they were big and yuck but harmless to us just deadly to animals who eat them :(Parrys Creek- view from the boardwalk - look at all the Boab trees
Fletcher & Mackenzie at the lakes edge looking for crocs, they are fresh water so hopefully wont eat them, the sun was about to set so we headed off before they all came out!
The over grown 4wd drive track that we did, was crazy but fun

I love boabs, that wonderful shape. You certainly can't say you haven't seen wild life ... eeeewww cane toads are just disgusting aren't they, most unattractive! The area around you looks nice, still warm I'm guessing. What are the prices like at the supermarkets, and how about petrol? Keep having fun, love you xx
ReplyDeleteHiya, we are loving the boabs, we have always wanted to plant one at home but they are sooo expensive and here they grow like weeds. It is still really hot, 35 or so each day but the humidity is really bad, but it does seem to be coming down. The supermarket prices aren't bad, IGA is a bit more expensive than coles but all about the same as home. Food is most expensive in between towns, which is understandable as they are quite remote and don't have the same buying power as coles. One roadhouse for example had Doritios corn chips for $6 and another had an egg & bacon sandwich for $15.95, but these are the extremes. Petrol is ranging between $1.67 and about $1.80 in the towns and roadhouses are about $1.90-$1.99 xxx
