Mackenzie : Today we slept in and went into town and had a look around. We went to the shops and brought some food and looed at other shops. We had a look at the hot springs that we will go to tomorrow, it looks good but there are fresh and salt water crocs- scary! I don't know if I want to do it. When we got home we went to the pool, it has a spa, it wasn't that hot it was still nice to sit in. For dinner we had eggs and bacon.
Fletcher: Today we mostly drove around town and shopped for food. I bought a Pokémon DVD then we went to the car and went home for a little while, then we went out again to look at Katherine Hot Springs. Then we went back home for a swim then we had dinner, it was leftover tuna pasta, with a bit of mums zucchini slice and bacon too.
Today was a bit of a rest & research day, what we thought we could do we couldn't so we had to change things up a bit. The kids had a big sleep in until about 9am, the first one in ages so I just read and relaxed until the talking began! These moments have been the only time I have had to myself as I have shadows that follow me everywhere, too scared on what they miss out on but it is all very exciting for them so I cant blame them. We headed into town to have a look around and get some fresh food. We had really run down being out at Lake Argyle and to get bits and pieces there wasn't overly expensive but we thought we would just try live off what we had. Why is it I cant leave a supermarket for under $100? Today was $177 but it was big ticket items like deodorant, meat, chicken, dog food but still the trolley wasn't full and it fitted in our car comfortably- hey and of course there was cans of soft drink! I got Dan a treat as we had found bottles of snow drop, does anyone else remember how good this tastes, Dan loves it, I'm sure we will get more before we leave here. ( I have to skip ahead and tell you, Dan put it in the freezer for a while so it was icy cold and had ice in it, he shared it around and finished the 1.25lt bottle- easy done I think but Fletcher just cant stop saying, I cant believe dad drank a whole bottle of soft drink in 1 day, I hate to tell him it was actually in under an hour. He has said it at least 10 times,, Mack not so shocked as she would love to be let lose on a bottle of soft drink- she is her fathers daughter) I have to tell you I have not had so many people trying to sell me things in a shopping mall anywhere more than here, if it wasn't a hand cream, it was something else, all not taking no for an answer, the last one on the outside of the shops I said no thank you I have to meet someone, he says oh can I come with you?, I said yep sure, Dan & Bentley walk across the road with Dan laughing as he knew they would bail me up, that's when I wish Bentley was a big angry dog. Anyway shopping done and we headed back to the van for fresh bread sandwiches. We decided to head to the hot pools but when we got there, there was a no dog sign, the lady at the info centre said it was ok for dogs but we weren't in the mood for a problem as there were police everywhere. The police spend their day telling people to move on from the parks and under the trees and confiscating alcohol. We saw them today going through the trolleys and telling them to think of their kids, go home and lay off the alcohol. There is very strict alcohol rules and throughout most of the places we have been there is a strong policy for kids to be in school. Each town has a different slogan, No school/no service is the basic message. So if the aboriginal kids are in a store of any kind and it is during school hours, the shop assistant will not serve them, this includes take away foods, supermarkets, clothes stores, everywhere. What a great strong message to send to the adults and help the kids. We gathered all our info from the tourist info site and started planning our day for tomorrow. We went for a swim in the pool and a nice long spa. The kids watched a couple of DVDs after tea. We are surviving really well without TV, I am missing my shows but surprisingly I am still breathing without them.
